As a lifelong (though on-and-off for the last 6 or 7 years) Beatles listener I can recommend the 'Red' and 'Blue' double LPs as the ideal entry point for a newcomer to Beatles purchases. That's how I first got into them. These excellent compilations have great variety of works penned by John, Paul, George (and even 1 or 2 by Ringo). The red one is called Beatles 1962-66 and the blue one is called Beatles 1967-70.

Well, I think Sgt. Pepper's and Revolver are highly overrated but I still enjoy Abbey Road.

I like The Beatles but they are the most overrated band. Sure they were one of the first groups to ever roam the earth but definitely not the first and their stuff didn't come from nowhere (as it's been made to believe) but from people like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, etc...

I absolutely hate their teenybop stuff so can't listen to anything they put out before 1966 without cringing. From that year on, and except lame songs like Yellow Submarine and some from the Magical Mystery tour the rest is ok. I've never dug Let It Be too much though. Some of the tracks on it are weak.

Said this, my list would be something like this:

-Revolution.
-Get Back.
-Come together.
-While my guitar gently weeps.
-Back in the USSR.
-Yer Blues.
-Most of the Sergeant Peppers album.

Glad somebody agrees. Don't you know how overrated they are here in Spain. Actually the only old band 'respectable people' (Middle-aged) like. I mean you play them the Stones, Kinks, Who, etc... and they run away or tell you to turn it down, but if you play a Beatles cd they stick around. Ain't it absurd? Of course but it's true.

The Beatles ARE extremely overrated. Sure, they might have a few good hits but I wouldn't quite say they're THE BEST, or even qualify in that competion.

You really can't go wrong with any Beatles purchase but I would recommend starting with Revolver.

thats no reason to say they are overrated, and what is overrated anyway i'll tell you its a stupid buzz word, the beatles maybe very well known all over the world so ppl feel the need to bash em but they are a great band so who gives a ****
