I'm sure they aren't really doing a doctoral thesis simply on how many PF fans are male/female. It's not even an academic research problem to try and solve, just a statistic with no context. No respectable university would accept such a Ph.D. proposal. I know how to do a Ph.D. proposal (have read lots of them).

yeah, but even as a figure to include in an essay, it would be pointless
