I've only heard the album version and was wondering which was the best. Are the film's worth seeing? My mom says they've got their good (Billy Idol, Phil Collins, John Elton) and they're bads.

I much prefer The Who's "Pinball Wizard" over Elton John's. I enjoy everything else by him, honest!

And who's the fool who wears the crown?

The original movie was AWFUL, and I wasn't aware they made a second one. The only thing good about the first one was Roger Daltry as Tommy...he was obviously the best vocalist and his acting was surprisingly good ('course, all he had to do for most of it was stare blankly).

Elton John really made "Pinball Wizard" his own, and while I enjoyed it, it is not as good as The Who. Eric Clapton, of course, had a phenomenal voice, but the biggest surprise to me was Jack Nicholson...MAN, he has a pretty good singing voice!

Apart from that the film was a shambolic disaster. Surely, the album is the best...I have never heard it live in its entirety, but I'd like to.

If it ain't dirty, don't clean it.

Remake??? What? When did that happen? LIke that was necessarry. Anyway, musically, the album is WAY better than the film. Obviously. But that's not what the film is about. I mean, having the actors interpret the songs is part of the whole 'opera' thing. Of course they're not going to sound as good. I think the film gets a bad rap. It's very entertaining and really defines the time in which is was made. I wish there was more out there like it. Clapton as the preacher was SO awesome. I loved his performance. Keith Moon did a great job as Uncle Ernie too. Sally Simpson has to be my favorite part though. I love that song. Anyway, I like it when they did it live more than the album. It always seemed more exciting. I have the live album of it and they do it on the Live at the Isle of Wight DVD. I like how they start. Keith Moon (the conductor) to the audience, "Quiet, quiet now. I want audience quiet now. Rock opera, rock opera. Very serious." Then he goes on and Pete has to shut him up. Great DVD.
