I say for taste charcoal all the way, but for pure convience sake I'd say propane, it's clean & easy but lacks the true flavor of charcoal or even wood gives.

American by birth, Floydian by obsession.

charcoal all the way - the meat tastes better, the bruning charcoal looks great and smells nice and it gives off a nice heat...and you get a fair chance to smoke out your neighbours too

I like the way Ned Flanders calls his fancy new barbecue 'Propane Elaine'.

Charcoal is the way for an authentic barbecue though. You can get bags of charcoal where you light the bag itself and only one match should be sufficient now.
