i think they are awesome their sound was different from what commercial rock was at that time and sounded much more evolved. i love how jim morrison wasnt afraid to express himself during a performance even if it ment jail time. my fav story is when he wipped out his wedding tackle during one of his shows, the fact that all those people were shocked and angered about it is total sh*t though. for one they were part of the 60s generation which was all about sex and plus music was evolving into somthing more than just something you listen to. i guess that could have been considered the first shock rock show :D

I have a great deal of respect for Jim Morrison, but not for the reasons that made him famous. That said, I have seven of The Doors' albums, my favorite being An American Prayer.

And who's the fool who wears the crown?

I went to the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC during the summer.

And upon laying eyes on them, their heavenly glow radiating softly, my own reflection staring back at me...I couldn't contain it.

Yes.

I got down on my knees and bowed to Jim Morrison's infamous leather pants.

I only have 2 Doors albums, but I love them both.

That's really not true. There was so much more to him than that. Yeah, he did have his issues with alchoholism, but he was by no means the caricature portrayed in that awful Doors movie. Maybe you have the wrong book. Also, the incident in Miami, according to Jim and the other Doors members, didn't happen. He was simulating masterbation and some uptight audience members couldn't handle it. Just because it was the sixties, doesn't mean that eveyone was accepting of all that. There were still a lot of people that were very shetltered. It was all still very new back then. It's not like now where everyone is desensitized to the point of being apathetic about anything that goes on no matter how tasteless.

Morrison was a great lyricist and singer. But the Doors were a band, a damn good one. There's so much more to it than the Jim legend. When I listen to them I hear four guys performing, not one.
