80s metal/hair metal is one of my least favourite rock-related genres, if not the one. I like most of what I've heard from the Cult, but that's it. Most of the 80's music I listen to consists of Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine, etc.

Trad metal is so poppy and childish.Look to the so called "Post rock". Neurosis,Isis,Red Sparowes, Godspeed you!Black Emperor are a step apart from everthing else. Look out for a French group called "A Year Without Light" Their album "Nord" is awe inspiring.

look at the sky ,look at the river, is`nt it good ?

RE: 80's Metal
80's metal became very broad and with loose, somewhat watered down membership criteria.
More than a few critics will cite Bon Jovi and Cheap Trick among the groups of '80's metal. Which is strange but music does evolve and labels are only labels.
That form of metal became so very popular and widespread while I was in high school. Some of 80's metal seemed to cross from 70's glamour rock and then of course with the incredible wave that was MTV, image and music videos became oh so important. Lycra, spandex, hairspray and blush and mascara and of course black leather were the fashions of every band member. A little hint of satanic cult did not hurt either.

RE: 80's Metal
This summer, as a joke, me and my friend took up listening to Slayer. I actually sort of like them, too, which is weird. They're just funny. Most metal just makes me laugh, in a kind of "you can't be serious" way. Reign In Blood is awesome, though.

LOL!!!!! Nice one Dean.

80's metal is wonderfully tacky and hilarious (unless it's thrash metal, which to me is good), I love the 80s. Ronnie James Dio, Metallica, Megadeth, Quiet Riot, MJ (when he was black), Motley Crue, etc. BUT, I do NOT like Bon Jovi one bit.

I hate 80's metal.

I hope that added something valid to the discussion. glare

RE: 80's Metal
Van Halen & Scorpions not really metal bands. With exception to the 1st VH record which many including Diamond Dave do label metal. Scorpions were hard rock.

Ratt could be called pop metal I suppose. Round & Round is pretty far away from say Priets Hell Bent for Leather, which is pure metal is most aficianadoes books. I like the 3 songs of theirs I know, You think you're Tough, Back for More, & Round & Round. Not a favorite band though.

Motley Crue & Wasp are hard rock-metal crossover. 1st 2 Motley records had some good riffs, then they went more commercial with Girls Girls Girls etc.

As for "real" 80's metal, Metallica, Maiden, Priest were the s--t. Motorhead & Mercyful fate & Venom as well. Slayer & Megadeth following just behind them. Sabbath were still huge right up til 83-84 with the Ian Gillan fronted version. Born Again hit # 3! in the UK. Tour was a sellout in US.

Twisted Sister & Quiet Riot not my cup of tea. Same for Warrant, Poison etc. Poison more a glam rock band. Certainly not metal.

METALLICA, ACDC

I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house
I don't know why I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse! I love that line haha.
