Hmm. Well, be prepared to get REALLY depressed. Those three albums are Neil at his most dismal (although more so on the first and third than on On the Beach, which was written and recorded when he was starting to work his way out of "the ditch," as he called it).
Great. This is probably why I haven't gotten into him in the first place. Maybe I'll just stick with his fellow Canadians for right now. They're uplifting at least. I'm not in the mood to be depressed!

Come on, you listen to the likes of Roger Waters and John Lennon and you can't handle a little depression?

If you want non-depressing Neil I'd say go for his late 70s-early 80s stuff, like Comes a Time, Live Rust (perhaps the greatest live rock album ever), Hawks and Doves, Re-Ac-Tor, and Trans. After that he kind of went off the rails trying to piss off his record company, then he bounced back with This Note's For You and Ragged Glory, which marked the beginning of his "Godfather of Grunge" phase. All good stuff.
