YES & ABWH
I've only recentely been getting into YES, I think they're an aquired taste, like Guinness....

I bought the Going For The One album and the Yes album (not "The Yes Album", the [color=#0000FF]YES:
YES one...)

Are there any other YES albums that are similar to GFTO?

GFTO is a great album! 'Tormato' is somewhat similar, with shorter songs....a bit "poppier". You have to have the classics though, which include 'The Yes Album', 'Fragile', 'Closer To The Edge', and 'Relayer'. 'Drama' is a really good record too, and the only album not to feature John Anderson's vocals....Trevor Horn did the duties on this one(then went on to produce '90125')

You're right about them being an acquired taste. They take a little time to sink in, but when they do.....you'll really appreciate them for their incredible musicianship! Have fun building your collection! Cool

Ditto to everything Whong said. rocker

If you don't have the money to buy all those CDs at once, there's a great best of called Classic Yes... it's on my list of all-time favorite albums actually... and actually might be a good one to get you hooked. Cool

No Floyd fan should ever miss a chance to see THE MACHINE!
Go ahead... sample their music, check their tour schedule...

Much as I hate compilations generally, Classic Yes is a good one. The songs flow nicely, even though they were originally on separate releases.

Beautiful music. :music:

To me, Yes is one of those bands like Floyd that don't lend themselves too well to compilations. I'd go for getting more of the classic albums, and if you can get into them, you can keep on buying more. Whong did a pretty good job of summarizing their classic albums, including the underrated Drama. Most of what they did in the 70's was excellent. If I were you, I'd buy The Yes Album or Close to the Edge next--Close to the Edge is probably their best album ever. Fragile is another classic and Relayer is very good, too. If you have those 4 plus GFTO, and you still want more, you can keep going.

Another worth mentioning is Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe. 80% of the classic 70's line up. Very much in the vein of 'Close To The Edge' era Yes, and with Tony Levin pulling bass duties, Chris Squire is hardly missed. Excellent stuff from the early 90's! rocker

I actually don't mind the 80's pop albums, either. 90125 has a lot of good songs if you can get past the 80's production. It's kind of like Yes's version of Momentary Lapse or Radio Kaos!

A very different band then. Trevor Rabin took them in a whole new direction then. "Hearts" is one of the best songs ever! As to most recent Yes, the albums 'The Ladder' and 'Magnifacation' are both quality also!

I can imagine. That was an interesting lineup for the band. Trevor Horn did a good job on the vox, I thought.

As an aside, 'Going For The One' sports the only album cover design by Hipgnosis, who of course did many of The Floyd's albums.
