Jintzey Wrote:As far as I can tell in the Admin CP, there doesn't appear to be a way to mass delete members, they'd have to be deleted one by one. I am NOT going to delete 3000 members one by one!
I could possibly write a script that could automatically delete all members that have been inactive for a certain length of time or who have been banned and send it to you. If you're interested, go to the page where you delete members from, look at the source code, and send that source code along with the page URL to me in a PM, and I'll see if it's possible. (I can't guarantee that it's possible until I see the source code)

I'm a little perplexed by the talk of the large load of this site. It seems to me that there is much less traffic on this board than at any time I've been here in the past. There is certainly far less than in the days following the all too brief Floyd reunion, which was before my time here.

Is there some cumulative factor involved in this? Can't old threads be made non-interactive and be archived? We pretty much know what to carry over. The rest is just read only history. How many times a month do you see longtime members aggravated by newbies dragging up some long dead thread?

Just streamline it and move on. Most of the topics here are recycled ad nauseum anyway. Make a new board. Archive this one, or don't.

It's not like some benevolent advanced civilization is likely to become dependent upon you sending them more pointy in lieu of Chuck Berry.

The database for the entire forum's history is quite massive, and evidently Ikonboard wasn't designed to handle such a large load. We can't even make backups through the forum's own backup feature because it's too large, so only PFOnline himself can do it through the server directly.

Bottom line, it is just not worth trying to band-aid this forum any further to keep it limping along. PFOnline will either import this forum's database into a new more stable forum to save all the posts/users, or if importing isn't possible he will install a fresh new forum and lock this one so we can still view what we have here without losing it entirely. (Spectre is ex-Ikonboard staff and this is what he recommended we do above all else.) Of course, we hope PFOnline gets the chance to do this before this forum dies completely and we really do lose it all. At the increasing rate of errors we are seeing lately, it's not looking too good.

Jintzey, a question if you will?

Let's say the forum is going to be dead in September...say on the 24th. Would all active users be emailed or notified in a way in knowing the forum is gone or a new one is up?

Are you hinting that something is going to go down on Sept 24? :???:

If it crashes that's it, no one will be notified. How can they be if the forum is inaccessible? You'll just have to find out on your own by coming here and seeing for yourself. Hopefully we can just import the old stuff into a new forum and perhaps mass mail the members with the new info, but if we can't import, there's no way to do that as far as I know.

I suppose we could send out some sort of notification of a new forum through the newsletter, so you should sign up for that if you haven't already if you want to get notification.
