Roger Waters said that. Things happen for no reason at all sometimes. We only think that things happen for a reason because we can apply reasons to them with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, we know there is no reason, no purpose. Only when we see what happens afterwards do we retroactively say "This happened for this reason." It's all fake, but we do it to convince ourselves that, ultimately, there is meaning in all things.

Mind you, I'm not saying this as a bitter or cynical person. I prefer it this way. I'd rather things happened totally randomly, because that means more fun. Patterns are the enemy of enjoyment and fulfillment in life. It's MUCH more satisfying to accomplish something in the face of complete randomness and meaninglessness.

I agree.

Sometimes we look to reasons to explain things that scare or trouble us. There is no reason but we have to create one in order to reassure ourselves that everything will be alright.
