yer, its amzingly cool that Pink Floyd got played on Mars, but theres one problem.... Theres no air on Mars so the sound couldn't travel anywhere so no one/ thing, would have heard anything. lol hate to break it to you guys.
Though sounds would not be the same as they are on this planet, there is enough air on Mars for sound to travel and be heard. Pitches of sounds would be lower than they are on Earth due to less air in the atmosphere.
Space is another story though. Since space is a vacuum, no sound can travel or be heard through it. Even though PF "being blasted all throughout space" is impossible, it is still awesome that theirs was the first music played in space.

Well, the martian atmosphere is largely made up of Carbon Dioxide and not Nitrogen like on Earth. It does also have a thinner atmosphere and the particles are on the whole smaller, so it would sound quite different.
There is also a lot of dust particles in space though, so technically I guess sound would travel to an extent, but it would be of such low amplitude, you would struggle to hear it. Certainly you would find it difficult to hear the orchestral version of Ticket To Ride in space. :;):

I'm fairly new too Floyd but damn I love them.
They are the best band in the world.
No doubt.
And I think it's about time Floyd got into space!
They deserve to rule over everything!
Pink Floyd Domine!

Quote:Pink Floyd song played on Mars
The Pink Floyd song Eclipse, from the album Dark Side of the Moon was used to wake the Mars probe 'Opportunity' on the 10th of March 2004. The song was chosen in recognition of the transit of the martian moon, Phobos. After the probe had finished with the classic song, a second song, 'Meet me halfway', by Kenny Loggins, was played because Opportunity is halfway through its primary 90-sol surface mission. This is not the first time Pink Floyd was played in outer space: Russian astronauts took a recording of the Pink Floyd live album 'Delicate Sound of Thunder', into space with them. The US Mars probe 'Opportunity' is the second probe on Mars closely following behind 'Spirit.
I for one think it's real cool!
American by birth, Floydian by obsession.
