There's, as far as I am concerned, a hand-made machine that Dave has built. It is the one which David is playing the solo in Shine on (Pt. 2) with. Where can I find any further information? Or photos?

Thanks

Like a time machine?

You have to be a little bit more specific, buddy. =P

I think you mean a lap steel guitar. It's not his invention, maybe it's just the first time you've seen one used by anyone. More common in country music, not so much in rock.

Yeah no ****. I can't think of one country song that doesn't have a steel guitar in it.

No, not a steel guitar. It's another instrument, that he is playing seated. He picks the strings with his right hand and he has a metal bar on his legt one. This instrument produces a guitar sound, but in very very high frequencies. (A guitar would need about 40 frets to make sounds)

Thnx for replying

That is a pedal steel guitar.

They have been used since the 50' that I know of, and probably earlier than that.

Look it up on Google.

......and usually played a lap steel or Fender twin neck pedal steel guitar for slide parts.

yeah it's a guitar gianni. They've been around forever, you don't see em in rock too much tho. The 'metal bar' on his finger on the left hand works like a fret, the string touches the metal, cutting it off at that point. (This makes sense if you know how any guitar works)

A great lapsteel player is robert randolph, anyone interested in this instrument should check him out, and his family band :p
