Yeah I have the new Zeppelin DVD. It's really sweet. I've also been kind of confused on why Page hasn't made it to the top of any published lists. Yes Hendrix was very good, and very inventive. But I think the award should go to Page.

Interesting....why him? Why not Ace, Bruce, Vinnie, Tommy, or Mark? :upside:
Just kiddin. He's cool, but I don't think he's that great of a player, most of what he does is powerchord rythmns and stuff.
But he definatly does his job well. :;):

Gilmour, Hendrix, and Page are the holy trinity of guitarists (in my mind anyway) Santana and Tony Iommi are my honorable mentions.
One pick I dont agree with is Kurt Cobain. He was a great songwriter, one of the best, but he wasn't a fantastic guitarist. Even he admitted that he wasn't much of a guitarist.

Page may match Hendrix in overall skill, but one thing that no other gutarist can match Hendrix in is influence and creativity. If it werent for Hendrix, many of the greatest innovators in music today may never have even picked up a guitar. Hendrix is the one that opened up the doors for musicians to really push the limits of what they can do with their instruments, going beyond simple riffs and solos to, as he put it, making his guitar "laugh and cry."
Hendrix also goes above and beyond in how unique his sound not only was, but still is today. Many bands have mimicked the sounds of Clapton and Page (that's only natural) but very few have ever been able to capture the pure essence of Jimi's music. He is simply the most influencial gutarist ever. It's the same reason The Beatles top a lot of "greatest of" lists, not nessicarilly because its the best music (which it often is, but there is music out there that I would think is better including the Floyd), but because its so influencial.

Well, as I see, I'll be alone, but in my opinoin Mike Oldfield is the greatest. He can play every kind of guiat, including flamenco, which is the moust difficult kind of guitar style.
None of You really like Oldfield?
David is - for me - on second place. I adore his v e r y emotional guitar, for example in "Coming Back To Life"...
Mike & Dave for me.
I also like Mark Knopfler very much.
