I always assumed Syd wrote Paintbox because he was the only major songwriter the band had in the early years and he is well known for being a painter also. I stand corrected though if it was written by Wright. I have the song on Relics, I think. Could check the sleevenotes.

Everything on that song is credited to Wright according to many different sources that I've checked. That doesn't mean that Syd necessarily didn't have any input on it at all, however, though I don't know for sure if he did or not.

Speaking of paintbox, I recently found out just how poisonous the metal cadmium which is used as pigment in many of my paints is. Not good news.

Yes. Well actually no, of course. But I wonder the consequences of accidentally ingesting traces of it or tipping it down the sink when washing up afterwards - it must end up somewhere. Will it poison the environment?

Probably. There are places in the States that will take your old paint for proper disposal (whatever that is), rather than just dumping them down the drain or something else equally harmful. Perhaps there are such places in England?

Never heard of any such places in England. Received a new tube of paint through the mail today. Might start painting in day or 2.

RE: paintbox - just wondering
Syd played guitar on "Paint Box", but didn't write the lyrics. He also played the WONDERFUL ,EXTRAORDINARY guitars on "Remember a Day" as well. I think it was a song that was originally left off of PATGOD.Fantastic glissandro guitar(slide!?!). I seem to remember that he might have nicked that from the Soft Machine's original guitarist Daevid Allen who use to put up a pic of Syd on his amp when he played, long after Syd left the Floyd. For inspiration, no doubt!!
