I've only had my broadband connection for about a week, so sorry if this is old hat to most of you. But I've just downloaded some of the most amazing Syd videos ever... a rather psychedelic performance of 'Jugband Blues', a lot of things that most of you may have seen but I hadn't (Syd's First Trip(which of course wasn't really his first, but anyway), performances by the Floyd from 66...) Oh, Pantomime Horse, I'm so bleeding happy! I'm in love with Kazaa. Now the Swedish government is planning to outlaw it by the end of the year. :(
The proposition will probably be accepted, as well. I'll just have to get all the PF videos I can in the meantime. I just wanted to tell you. Oh well, till we meet again, stay away from that axe.

"Pantomime Horse" - what a hilairious phrase in that context. Made me laugh. Well done that man! As for loving Kazaa, the very loveable Jintzey is by no means keen on it and reports it causing severe problems. Don't like the idea of a government banning peer to peer though.

Well, with all due respect to Jintzey (who seems to be a likeable chap) where else is anyone going to come across uncut 66-67 PF footage? The PF don't need the money. The only people in need in this whole equation are the fans... I see nothing morally wrong in downloading a few minutes of video performance from 35 years ago... They can yap all they like about Barrett in interviews, but they don't seem very keen on releasing the stuff on DVD... so why not? It makes me happy, and nobody gets hurt.

Plus, if the DVD versions of these recordings ever were relased, I'd buy them in a second. Watching them on your PC is just not the same... the graphics and sounds are often way below-par. So I might just consider these things tasters for the real DVD Syd packs that will come along in the 21st century...please? Or I might just go insane for real.

Well, I'm not even sure that this belongs in the Syd thread... but consider this. I've just been watching that sketch about the Judean suicide squad that was cut from Monty Python's Life of Brian for no reason... I laughed my head off. I just fail to see what's so wrong about downloading a few videos or whatever, it's not exactly mafia territory.

Correction: Jintzey is actually a woman, not a chap.

Agree 100% with all of this. DVDs and DVD players rule.

Python are the greatest. Want to get the DVD box set of their films. Life Of Brian is fantastic, yes. When you say it was cut in parts for no reason, it was in fact surely cut in order to reduce the amount of deep offence caused to religious zealots. Even the version that made it to the silver screen was banned in some local authority jurisdictions in England (and in America too, I believe) because it is an extremely controversial film that makes fun of billions of people's most solemn and sacred beliefs. Some caution is necessary around such volatile subjects. It is one of my favourite films, though. I find it almost pant-wettingly funny time and time again.

I have nothing against downloading videos. My only issue with Kazaa is that it crashed my hard drive eventually causing my computer to cease functioning all together, thus forcing me to buy a new computer. Ever since, I'm vary wary of file sharing programs and generally avoid them.
I obtained a bunch of videos saved on a VCD on eBay for a very good price. That might be another method you could look into if your government does ban the p2p method (which is pretty ridiculous IMO).
