Am I the only here who after 6 sittings of his latest album who think this is a weak album? I cant even memorise a single tune, non of them sticks in mind, unlike some of his earlier stuff from Bell, Reason, Face and Gilmour. I am really disapointed in this album I'm afraid, but cant wait for the RAH gig and all the classic tracks live.
As my wife puts it "its nice easy listening background music". But no great shakes like Coming back to life, High Hopes, Learning to fly, On the turning away, Out of the blue, Metaphysical, Cruise, Deranged, No way out of here etc.

I like the tracks you admire, let me tell you this album is awesome, the music is more mature.
As salt resolved in the ocean
I was swallowed in God's sea,
Past faith, past unbelieving,
Past doubt, past certainty.
Suddenly in my bosom
A star shone clear and bright;
All the suns of heaven
Vanished in that star's light.

Quote:i heard it today and on first listen its very mellow and pretty poor, just my opinion
It's not the kind of album that you are really going to be able to understand based on one listen. I was actually very impressed on my first listen, but it has taken repeated listenings to confirm my initial good impression.
To be honest, I don't think that any Floyd release, by the band or by the individual members, can be fairly assessed without multiple listenings. There is really a lot going on here... in terms of the lyrics, melodies, playing, and production, and you simply can't digest it all at once.

I've given it 2 listens to it so far. Tracks I like: On an Island, Take a Breath, This Heaven, and Smile. Tracks I dislike: The Blue, Then I Close my Eyes, and A Pocketful of Stones. The rest of the album is average, but definitley not useless filler.
Good Album, some tracks sound like Floyd, some like classic Dave, the rest are mellow and kind of... slothy.....
7.5/10 album (for reference Amused to Death is 9/10, and The Wall is 10/10)

I like the album a lot. I had to warm to many Floyd tunes over the years. I didn't like Money when it came out that much!! I thought it was overrated! Man....it was me that was the problem, as I totally love it now! But each to their own. I do like it on first listen, and I know it will grow on me as his music always has. It's by far my favorite Gilmour album thus far.
I watched the live video from the BCC of the concert and it was great!

At this point, I'd give it a nine out of ten... at the very least, an 8.5. Ask me again in another month, and I might add or subtract a bit.
For reference, I'd give Dark Side and WYWH 10 out of 10, Piper 9 out of 10, Meddle 9 out of 10, Division Bell 8 out of 10, Momentary Lapse 6 out of 10. I'd give both of Dave's earlier solo efforts somewhere around 7.5 or 8 out of ten. Obviously, it's my favorite Dave solo album at this point.
