I had a feeling this would happen! Dave's creative juices are in full flow again.
I think what we have to understand about Dave is this: he wants to enjoy playing music, and he doesn't want it to be a huge, overwhelming commitment. When he can do it in an enjoyable way, on a relaxed schedule, the musician in him just comes right out. This is the biggest reason why he's resistant to a Floyd reunion: it just involves so much commitment, plus possible conflicts with Roger. I think that as long as Dave doesn't feel pressured, anything is possible, including a Floyd reunion.
What I DON'T see happening is a world tour with a massive stage show--that's what kept him mostly away from music for 10 years. I think he looks at it and thinks "there's two years of my remaining life involved in massive stress." If he can play mini-tours here and there without a huge production, I think we'll all get a chance to see him sooner or later. I could even see him doing it with Floyd if they could agree to strip down the production and focus on the music. I could also see another Floyd album, as long as they could do it without deadlines and major ego battles. Otherwise, he can just play in his killer solo band with Rick and Dick and Jon and Guy. I can't say I blame him--whenever I see a video of that band, they just seem to be having so much fun.

It seems as if "mabewa" has this sized up properly! I am a student of this DG process as well and I won't try to upstage or refine his comments...well done! Keeping it small, supremely melodic, and personal has been his approach for a long time. It failed commercially in '84 ("About Face" tour fell on it's face...however unfair) and he gave up as a solo act then.
My things have changed!! Thankfully!
Mission finally accomplished with this last tour!! If you saw him on tour this spring, or you've heard live snippets of this tour, you know!!
Last I heard (from Rio) Roger is slipping into "Milli Vanilli"/lip- sync land to compensate for ruined vocal chords on some of the Final Cut selections. Nobody wishes this to be, but time is cruel. I wish Roger well, but he's gonna need a lotta help vocally!!

I wonder why Nick didn't play on On An Island or tour with Dave - did Dave not ask him to, or did he not want to? I hope he plays on the new album!

I would imagine that Dave figures that if Nick and Rick are on board, then it's Pink Floyd, and he wants to keep his solo career separate from PF.

He was definitely singing--it just seemed that he had some kind of guide vocal in the background. I couldn't tell what is was--it might have been a tape, but it also might have been one of his band members shadowing him. Anyway, Roger has never had the best voice from a technical point of view, but from listening to the recordings of the Rio set, I thought that Roger sounded fine--better than many people expected him to. I do think that he overuses the backing singers, but he's been doing that for a long time.

According to a source interview on Outside The Wall, "the planets are in allignment" and he's starting to write some new songs. "This next record won't take me 22 years".
I would like to hope not! :D

I just listened to On an Island today, for the first time in a little while... I'm liking it more than ever, which pretty much confirms that this album is a keeper in my book.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is quite different... he's been out there rocking on stage, so maybe it will be a bit harder. I'm kind of glad he did a mellow, atmospheric album, because it takes me back to Obscured by Clouds and Meddle, but it would also be cool to hear some loud Gilmour stuff again too!
