Yeah, this pretty much sums it all up in a nice, concise little paragraph.
Indeed it does. Some have to understand that if Rick Wright was not with Pink Floyd, they would've not got to where they are today. His sound IS Pink Floyd. Am I right?
Well, consider their first worldwide hit - DSOTM. The choruses on Breathe would never have existed without him, and nor would those on Time or the whole of Great Gig or Us And Them. It would have gone something like:

Speak To Me
Breathe [just with Em/A progression, and lacking the great organ sound]
On The Run
Time [just with F#m/A/E/F#m progression, and without Rick's electric piano work or his vocals on the chorus]
Money [without the great keyboard accompaniment]
Any Colour You Like [without the awesome outro]
Brain Damage [without his synth work]
Eclipse [without his organ]

Would that have sold? Would people have enjoyed Breathe as much if it just went Em/A all the time? Would the album have been the same without Great Gig and Us And Them, which have some of the most moving music on that album? Even just consider his playing on Time and Money; it really helped shape the songs. I agree with you, Rick provided something nobody else could, which was really noticeable on The Wall, where his involvement was significantly reduced, and The Final Cut, where he was completely absent. Having said that, if they hadn't had Roger, Dave, Syd and maybe even Nick they wouldn't have got to where they are.

I have no clue what are my favorites. I have listened to alot of guitars in the other music I listen to so its hard for me to find the parts where Rick comes in. There are parts where I know that it is him, but seldom. I'm going to study up and then come back and contribute.

My Last.fm
My RYM

Not who I used to be.

Do You Realize??

Don't forget the early years either. His piano work on Remember A Day is incredible, and his playing on Bike is what makes that song so fun. And don't forget the fade out of Matilda Mother.

- The entire Any Colour You Like section
- The middle section of Dogs
- All his work in Echoes
- The opening of Summer '68

And my personal favorite: Mudmen (sends chills down my spine and tears into my eyes every time!)

:)
Ditto for me as well, Mudmen is amazing! The intro to Summer 68 is what moves me the most. So simple yet so moving.

By the way, did Rick play on Nobody Home? Because if so that has to be one of his finest performances as well.

I suspect he didn't play on Nobody Home, but it's possible. Nobody seems to know who played what on The Wall--it seems that I've seen the piano on Nobody Home variously credited to Bob Ezrin, Peter Woods, and Rick.

According to James Gutherie, Rick played a lot of the Hammond parts on The Wall, and a lot of the organ playing does indeed sound like him. He also is often credited with playing some of the synth parts--the most obvious Rick moment on the entire album is the solo in Run Like Hell. PF stopped featuring solos like that after Rick left, simply because no-one else CAN play like that. But, it does seem that Rick didn't play much piano on the album, and when they did it live, Woods played the piano while Rick mostly stuck to organ and synth.

Too bad, because while Rick's organ and synth playing is more distinctive, he is also a very effective piano player, especialy when he does those weird, jazzy chords that he seems to love so much.

I think 'Nobody Home' ended up being the very last song that was written for 'The Wall', so that being the case, it's highly unlikely that Rick was around to contribute to it. A favorite of mine from that album, even if it's probably not Rick's piano.

Rick was the smart one...the ONLY (!) one of the 4 to get paid for doing the Wall Tour as a "side man", then arrange to get rehired again thereafter...

Rick Wright = No Detour on "Gravy Train".

My favourite Rick Wright solo is in Run Like Hell when the synth is going crazy at the end. Nobody else can play like that.
