it could be but i'm not sure, syd's lyrics are very profound sometimes and hard to understand, but its a great song, could have many a meaning

I always thought it was a direct response from Syd to everyone that he knew things just weren't quite right in his view of reality, but who knows

i think its a cry-out from syd that hes loosing himself...
also,was "vegetable man" a way for syd to say he need some help???i think so

I'm resurrecting a dead topic >_< rather than start a new one.
Aren't the lyrics...:
"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me HERE
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not HERE"
The lyrics at pf online say 'there' instead of here, but listening to the song off of SoS, I can clearly hear him say 'here'. Do i need to check my ears? Another thing: 'And I'm wandering who could be writing this song' last i checked, the word should be wondering...... unless it's 'And I'm wandering. Who could be writing this song' which still doesn't really work.

You're dead right. I wouldn't always trust the lyrics off this or other lyric sites, even if the odd word or line is wrong, confuses the meaning many times over.

I do find this to be one of Syd's most prophetic pieces though, that's why it has a special meaning and feeling being placed at the end of the final album he was involved in with the band.
