What the hell? poor Syd....
Oh GOD I know it isn't funny, no, it's damn well insulting but I must admit when I first read that post I suffered a terrible fit of hysteria ... That's a horrible thing to say, Intergalactic, but when I saw Julia Dream's post .. I couldn't stop laughing. :( How anyone could believe .... oh, that IS tragic!
And who's the fool who wears the crown?

I think it is sad that we are even discussing this. It's like talking about Roger's spitting incident, only worse, because it seems that for a lot of people the only thing Syd is remembered for is this: the guy who founded Pink Floyd and then went bonkers. Why can't we get past it? Why can't people just remember him for his music and his genius, and not for his mental and emotional difficulties?
I know I read a Rick Wright quote saying Roger went "slightly mad" during the recording of The Wall, but no one ever mentions that, do they? When we think "Roger Waters," we think "a musical genius." And rightly so. But why can't we do the same with Syd?
If it ain't dirty, don't clean it.

People don't consider Syd as much of a musical genius because most people don't experience his works enough to realize his greatness and creativity. The most popular Floyd music was made without Syd so Roger gets much more credit. Roger's lyrics and music are deep, but Syd's is so deep that you can't tell its deep most of the time.

I don't care if Syd is labeled as a mad man ... he's one of the best damn musicans in the world and I respect him more than Mr. Waters and Mr. Gilmour. Whatever the press has to say regarding his mental state is disregarded by me, at least, because I think it's wrong for Syd to be degraded by people who don't even know him. Honestly, I don't know him, not personally, and still am capable of maintaining civil respect for the man. In my opinion, Syd is a genius. That won't change.

the person that those so called fans stalk and harass isn't syd barrett it is roger barrett,ie if someone were to yell out oi syd how come you're not making records anymore,he just woudn't reply, whereas if someone were to say hey roger he would reply, roger (i think)just wants to forget about syd and his days in pink floyd, i'm not saying we should but we should respect his views AND LEAVE HIM ALONE, if you want to help buy his alter ego's albums which he recieves royalties for

I am not condoning any kind of haressment, but to say he's not still Syd strikes me as silly, I'm not asking him to talk to me, although I would love that, what I am saying is regardless of whether he wants it or not there is still a fascination/adoration/love/curiousity concerning the man...just because he stopped preforming and recording doesn't mean he's no longer that same person...he might have different ideals/interests now, but he is still Syd, and I wish him nothing but contentment and joy in life, but, he's not the same as you and I....he's different in many, mnay ways...not the least of which is that one time he was the driving force in many ways behind Pink Floyd...and for the most part all of us here are fans...so of course we're curious
