It's a shame that this topic keeps rearing it's ugly head, especially when the only comments that seem to appear here are fraught with inaccuracies and are oftern extremely offensive.

aserty Wrote:Edgar A.P. Wrote:But this stuff about being "Gilmore's Queen" is hogwash, and just another sad sign of the gay community trying to claim a famous person as being too backward to "come out."
I think David and Roger both said Syd went through a stage at the end where he was wearing women's clothing and thinking he was gay.
highly unlikely. this is Syd Barrett we're talking about, not sodding Arnold Layne...

fact is, he developed schizophrenia. he was catatonic. people think of insane in different ways. but when someone has schizophrenia they are labelled as certifiably insane. doesn't necessarily mean he was stark ravin' mad. it was most likely brought on by huge amounts of acid but many poeple think it would have happend anyway. i have a friend who's schizophrenic and it's definately not normal and not something to joke about. it's quite disturbing really. i feel bad everytime i see him.

so do i. i get this gnawing in the pit of my stomach. perhaps i'm too sensitive towards these things, or i like Syd a little too much!
i'm not sure if the Schizophrenia itself was brought on by all the drugs, or whether the drugs just 'helped' it along the way and made it develop and...ruin Syd's life.
anyhow, it is just a label; so how can anyone judge someone by some label that has been stuck on them, whether by society, a doctor, or anyone. SYD IS NOT MAD!!! he is tragic.
rest assured, i do not joke about this.

The most accurate reason would be he had Schizophrenia. He is depressed and nervous and the drugs made it so much worse for him. He locked up his girlfriend for 3 days before. The LSD and shrooms he toke really toke him down. He only sits in his house painting and who knows what he is lost and wont come back.
