The Great Gig in the Sky
“I’m not afraid of dying” is sung after HAL’s rebirth is discussed with other computer.
Takes a lot of money to send a ship into space.
Dark Side of the Moon appropriate theme while crew flies in the atmosphere of a moon of Jupiter.
Us and Them
“Us and them” applies to the US/Russian conflict. It also applies to the relationship between the people on the ship and the thing on the moon.
“Dark Side” is said in movie.
“Down and out” as ship attempts air-braking around the moon.
Any Colour You Like
Song begins once everything is calm again.
Beating heart as the astronaut’s pulse gets faster.
Wish You Were Here
“ghosts” as the men search through abandoned ship.
“Is there anybody in there?” as the men search through ship.
“A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon” as the ships hover above moon.
HAL is brought back to life in a similar way as a rock star is brought back to life after a drug stint.
Run Like Hell
“Run” as cosmonaut is told to get out of there as monolith emits huge blast.
Shine on You Crazy Diamond
“Shine on You Crazy Diamond” as they ask HAL questions.
Shine on You Crazy Diamond refers to Dave Bowman.
Screen with Jupiter and its moons on it is behind Dr. Floyd during song.
What Do You Want from Me
“As we look around this room tonight… Settle in your seat” as the crews discuss plans around the table.
“What do you want me to tell him?” is asked by HAL’s creator.
Learning to Fly
“On black” as backdrop was black.
“No turning back” as crew must head back to earth.
Computerized voice in song resembles HAL.
Keep Talking as HAL’s creator explains the reasons why they must leave to HAL.
HAL transmits final message to earth over and over again – keep talking.
Coming Back to Life
“Staring straight into the shining sun.”
“Headed straight into the shining sun.”
A new sun is created in our solar system.
